Find out your level first
Our free level test takes about ten minutes and needs no account. It gives you an estimated CEFR level from A1 to C2. Even if you study elsewhere, knowing your real level saves you from wasting months in the wrong class.
What the CEFR levels actually mean
CEFR is the Common European Framework of Reference — the standard universities and employers use to describe language ability. In plain terms:
- A1 — Beginner. You can introduce yourself, ask simple questions, and understand slow, clear speech about familiar things.
- A2 — Elementary. You can handle routine situations: shopping, directions, describing your family and job.
- B1 — Intermediate. You can cope with most situations while travelling, follow a conversation on familiar topics, and explain your opinions.
- B2 — Upper-Intermediate. You can work in English, argue a position, and understand complex text. This is the level most universities and employers ask for.
- C1 — Advanced. You use English flexibly and precisely for academic and professional purposes.
- C2 — Proficient. Near-native. You catch nuance, idiom and implication without effort.
Three things that actually move your level
Speak more than you study. Most people who are stuck have plenty of grammar and almost no speaking hours. Reading another grammar book will not fix that.
Listen to things slightly too hard for you. Not so hard you understand nothing — just past comfortable. That gap is where learning happens.
Be consistent, not intense. Twenty minutes daily beats four hours on a Sunday. Language is a habit before it is a subject.
Preparing for IELTS or TOEFL
Exam technique only pays off once your English is solid enough to score in the first place — usually around B1 to B2. Below that, building the language is faster than drilling the exam. Our level test will tell you honestly where you stand.
